Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #1/Perfectgame.org #5 Santa FE Saints rallied past Seminole State College in Sanford on Friday afternoon, and then held on for a 6-5 victory over the Raiders, improving SF to 34-5 overall and 15-2 in the Mid-Florida Conference.
David Lee (5-1) started on the hill and allowed four runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in six innings to pick up the win. Call Graham pitched the seventh and eighth innings, allowing just one walk, and Troy Bacon pitched the ninth for his 11th save of the season.
Santa Fe started the scoring in the first inning with a run on a hit by pitch and a ground out by Chad Stockdale. Seminole tied the score in the bottom of the first and the game remained scoreless until the Raiders put a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
SF tied the game in the seventh on a bases loaded wild pitch and took the lead on a hit by pitch to Haydn Cano, his second of the game. Steven Smith provided what would be important insurance runs with a two run RBI single to make it a 6-3 game.
Seminole scratched a run across in the seventh and another in the ninth but couldn't get the tying run on Troy Bacon. The run in the ninth was the first scored against Bacon since March 4.
Brandon Hernandez, Cole Parks, Matt Allen, and Steven Smith all had two hits each and Smith and Haydn Cano had two RBI apiece.
The Saints continue in MFC play on Saturday, April 9 at home against St. John's River State College at 1:00 PM. SF leads the Vikings by two games in the standings with seven games left to go.
