Gainesville, FL – Troy Bacon was stellar in relief of starter David Lee on Friday against Lake Sumter State College, tossing four scoreless innings with six strikeouts to put the Saints in position to win. SF completed the comeback in the tenth inning to secure their 16th win in a row.
David Lee started on the hill and tossed six frames, allowing three earned runs and five total.
Santa Fe (24-3, 6-0 MFC) trailed 5-2 after the top of the sixth, but wasted no time getting back into the game. In the bottom half of the frame Matt Allen drilled a double to start things off and two batters later Chad Stockdale singled to put runners at the corners. Hugo Valdes, whose recent hot streak pushed his average to .414, followed with a single to plate a run to make it 5-3. Cole Parks doubled down the line to trim the deficit to one, and Wyatt Meisterhans tied the game with a sacrifice fly to deep right center
Bacon held the Lakehawks in check for the next four innings, working out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh, and another jam in the ninth.
In the bottom of the tenth Kyle Phillips singled with one out and advanced to third on a single by Stephen Smith. Lake Sumter intentionally walked Hugo Valdes with one out to load the bases. Cole Parks stepped to the plate and on the third pitch, the LSSC pitcher tossed it to the back stop, scoring Phillips for the walk off wild pitch.
Bacon (2-1) earned the win with four innings pitched, three hits allowed, and six strikeouts.
Hugo Valdes and Cole Parks had two hits apiece to lead the offense.
