Gainesville, FL – Mikey Navarrete had one of his best games of the season on Tuesday afternoon for Santa Fe (36-7, 17-3 MFC) against Daytona State College, turning in five quality at bats, including three hits, one hit by pitch, and a sacrifice bunt. He also scored four runs and knocked a run in.
Mitch Campion (6-1) pitched all seven innings in the mercy rule shortened game, striking out six.
Santa Fe struck early and scored two in the first and three more in the second for a 5-0 lead. The Falcons rallied in the third and fourth to trim the deficit to 5-3, putting some pressure on the Saints.
Jarrod Cande answered the two run Daytona fourth with a two out, two run homerun to get SF back on the board and three more in the fifth and two in the sixth was all the Saints would need to put the game away.
Andrew Eyster, Kyler Marquis, Mikey Navarrete, and Garrett Mathes all had three hits each. Eyster, a freshman from Ocala, is now hitting .425 with 12 homeruns, 16 doubles, five triples, and 49 RBI, all team highs.
The win helps SF tighten their grip on first place in the MFC and moves their magic number to two. Next up is a date with the College of Central Florida (16-5 MFC) on Wednesday, April 18 in Gainesville at 3:00 p.m. The game can be seen live on the Saints Sports Network.
