
No. 16 Baseball has Quality Outing in 8-2 Win at St. Petersburg
CLEARWATER, Fla. – For the second time this season, No. 16 Santa Fe College Baseball went untroubled against St. Petersburg, getting past the Titans on Saturday by an 8-2 score.
The Saints plated two runs in both the second and third innings to give starter Garfield Johns early run support.
In the second inning, Tyler Shelnut singled and scored on Jacob Guthrie's triple. Guthrie then made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly from Santiago Garavito.
Gabriel Esquivel and Shelnut, both making their returns to the lineup, had doubles in the third as the Saints were able to take a 4-0 lead.
The advantage doubled in the sixth frame to 8-0 with a big inning from the Saints. SF had five hits in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Dylan Mock.
Johns made it through seven dominant, scoreless innings, and although the Titans scored single runs in both the eighth and ninth, the Saints comfortably picked up their eighth win of the season.
Key Statistics
On the mound, Johns had a final line of just two hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts in his seven scoreless frames. Carson Pillsbury, Jalen Hudson, and Wyatt Campbell combined to get the final six outs in the victory.
Offensively, Mock, Esquivel, and Shelnut at the heart of the order all had three hits. Mock had two doubles, with Esquivel and Shelnut recording one double apiece. Garavito had a double of his own, and Guthrie tripled.
The RBI came off the bats of Mock (2), Esquivel (2), Guthrie (2), Garavito (1), and J.P. Herrholz (1).

No. 16 Santa Fe (8-6) heads to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Monday, Feb. 21. Prior to their scheduled 3:00 p.m. game, the Saints and Stallions will first resume their previously suspended matchup from Friday, Feb. 18, with SF leading 7-4 headed into the bottom of the eighth with the Saints bats due up.
