
Baseball Outhits Seminole State in 9-3 Win
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe College Baseball hosted Seminole State College for the second game in the Mid-Florida Conference series, and the Saints had a good day in the batter's box and on the mound to top the Raiders, 9-3.
The win evened the series at 1-1, with the decisive third game scheduled to be played in Sanford, Fla. on Monday, Mar. 14.
After a scoreless first inning, the Saints began the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second. Santiago Garavito walked, and then went to third after a double from Wyatt Campbell. Zeb Marquis' groundout plated Garavito to make it 1-0. Later in the frame with two outs, Zeth Rodriguez had an RBI single and Jevin Relaford an RBI double.
Trent Becker on the mound made it through five scoreless innings for SF and was able to scatter the hits the Raiders were able to produce.
The lead grew to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth after an RBI single from Gabriel Esquivel brought in Tyler Shelnut. who had led off with a double.
Seminole State scored their first run in the sixth, taking advantage of an error, then added one more on Becker's record in the seventh.
Jake Blair entered on the hill, and was able to induce a groundout for the final out of the seventh, stranding baserunners on the corners.
Shelnut homered to begin the seventh, bringing the score to 5-2. The bases were later loaded for Z. Marquis, who earned another RBI with a groundout to push it to 6-2.
Although the Raiders came up with one more run in the eighth, SF put the game out of reach with three tallies in the bottom half, highlighted by a two RBI single from Xavier Moronta.
In the Raiders' final at-bats, Blair threw two strikeouts to close the door.

Every Saint in the lineup recorded at least one hit, and the Saints totaled 13 on the day with six extra-base hits.

Multi-hit efforts came from Relaford, Shelnut, Garavito, and Zeth Rodriguez, with Shelnut pounding both a double and a home run.
Becker's win on the mound improved him to 4-2 on the season, while Blair's save was his second.
