
Baseball Successful in Leesburg, 9-0 over Lake-Sumter
LEESBURG, Fla. – Another balanced offensive outing from the Santa Fe Baseball lineup, along with six-shutout innings from starting pitcher Trent Becker, helped the Saints to a 9-0 win in seven innings for the second game of the series with the Lake-Sumter State College Lakehawks.
SF went ahead 2-0 in the top of the second, after RBI singles from Jacob Guthrie and Bret Madren.
The Saints' big inning came in the third, as they took an 8-0 lead with six more runs. Santa Fe batted through the order and the inning included six hits, two walks, and two sacrifice fly's. The first six hitters in the frame all reached safely. Amongst other highlights, Jake McKee had a two-RBI single, and Santiago Garavito and Tyler Shelnut had RBI singles of their own.
Santa Fe's final run of the game came in the top of the sixth inning, when Gabriel Esquivel cleared the fence for a solo shot.
Trent Becker was keeping the Lake-Sumter bats quiet all day, as he worked his way through the game and continued to post zeros from the mound in the win.
Key Statistics
Becker (6-2) allowed just three Lake-Sumter hits, all singles. He was in command and around the strike zone throughout his six innings of no-run work, issuing just one walk while tallying up seven K's.
Wyatt Campbell came in and threw the seventh, striking out two.
Eight hitters recorded hits, with four multi-hit efforts to account for SF's 12 hits in the game.
Esquivel's home run was his team-leading twelfth of the season, tied for the second most in the NJCAA.
McKee and Madren each produced two RBI.
