
Shelnut Picked as FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII has selected Tyler Shelnut of Santa Fe Baseball as the Player of the Week, as announced on Tuesday morning.
Shelnut's honor is his first this season, and he joins Trent Becker as Saints to be recognized in 2022, after Becker was named the Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 15.

Shelnut, a second-year freshman from Lake City, Fla. and Fort White High School, has committed to the University of Florida. He has showed why throughout this season, and this past week, he homered and had multi-hit efforts in every game. The infielder currently ranks No. 2 in the NJCAA Division I in home runs on the season with 19, and he has batted No. 2 in the Saints order for the majority of 2022.
On the week to receive the recognition, Shelnut's play was superlative, as he totaled 11 hits in 20 at-bats for a .550 average, had 10 RBI, seven runs scored, four homers, and two doubles.
Shelnut added another homer on Monday, Apr. 18 to extend his home run streak to five games and tie the Santa Fe College program record for home runs in a season.
He will look to break the program season-record with another home run to extend his streak to six games when the Saints set out on their home field Wednesday, Apr. 20 for a 3:00 p.m. start against Daytona State College.
