Saints Defeat Lake Hawks in Home Opener 13-7
Gainesville, FL- The 1-0 Santa Fe Saints baseball team showed strong offensive potential for the season as they won their home opener on Friday against the 0-2 Lake Sumter State College 13-7. The Saints scored six runs in the first two innings before the Lakehawks scored their first run (including a home run in the first inning). The Saints were able to control the game in every phase as they cruised to their first win of the season.
How It Happened
Grant Gallagher walked on a 3-1 pitch in the bottom of the first inning.
- Wyatt Campbell hit a two-run home run over the left field wall in his first at-bat of the season.
- AJ Barrios hit a double to center field.
- Cory Filley hit a laser up the center to extend the Saints lead to 3-0.
Anthony Fimiano hit a double and AJ Barrios hit a triple, helping to increase the Saints lead to 6-0 in the second inning.
For the Lakehawks, Joelvis Fernandez Angeles hit a double in the third inning, leading to their first score of the game.
BJ Graham made an outstanding defensive play as he chased down a deep shot to left field for the Saints.
By the end of the fourth inning, the Saints had full control of the match with a score of 13-3.
The Lakehawks didn't slow down as they gained steam by scoring four more runs, including two runs in the ninth inning.
