
Eagles Disappoint Saints
Winter Haven, FL- Today, the Saints hit the road to face Polk State College. They will also face each other tomorrow in a doubleheader in Gainesville due to a rainy forecast on Saturday. Today, the Eagles got the best of the Saints in a 6-4 final. The Saints are now 7-4.
How It Happened
Wyatt Campbell started on the mound for the Saints. He pitched five innings with an impressive eight strikeouts and one walk. The leading hitters for the Saints were Grant Gallagher, who had two hits with one triple, and AJ Barrios, who also had two hits and one RBI.
Aiden Butler started on the mound for the Eagles. He pitched 6.1 innings with eight strikeouts as well. Liam O'Neil was the leading batter for the Eagles with three hits and one RBI.
The Saints scored the first run of the game during the second inning. Up until the sixth inning, it was a strong defensive effort by both teams.
In the sixth inning, the Saints struck again by scoring another run on a hard ground ball to center field scoring Javier Soto to increase the lead to 2-0. The Eagles then came on strong offensively, scoring three runs. Evan Wainman hit a double to score Aris Rivera, Jordan Thomas doubled to left field to score Liam O'Neil, and Jordan Thomas scored on a passed ball.
The Saints would take the lead again in the seventh inning 4-3. The Eagles would go on to score three runs in the eighth inning, putting the score at 6-4. This would be the final score as the Saints would go three and out in the ninth inning.
