Saints Baseball Drop Series Against Miami Dade Sharks
Miami, FL- On Saturday, the Saints traveled to Miami to finish up a three-game series against the Sharks. On Thursday, the Sharks won in Gainesville 10-0. The Saints won Game 1, but didn't have enough in the tank to finish off the Sharks in Game 2.
How It Happened
Game 1
Justin Jackson took charge on the mound for the Saints. He earned the win having only allowed five hits, striking out six, and only allowing one run over seven innings.
Griffin Sorrow, Javier Soto, and AJ Barrios each recorded hits for the Saints. Sorrow went 2-for-2 at the plate in the game to lead the Saints. D'Angelo Ortiz went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead all Maimi Dade batters.
The Sharks scored the first run of the game after Geremy Garcia hit an RBI single in the first inning. After this, the Saints put the clamps on the Sharks, not allowing them another run. Offensively, the bats came alive for the Saints in the third inning when they rattled off five runs. Griffin Sorrow started things off with a double. AJ Barrios then hit a line drive single to score Grant Gallagher. Landon Rogers then doubled to left field to score Javier Soto and AJ Barrios and extend the Saints lead to 4-0. Drake Harman hit an RBI single to score Rogers.
The Saints would score another run in the fourth inning. They would hold on to win by continuing to play solid defense for the remainder of the game. The final score was 6-1. Saints win!
Game 2
Santa Fe struck first by scoring the first run in the first inning after getting on base and scoring on a wild pitch. The Sharks began to gain momentum in the third inning. Geremy Garcia would spark the Sharks offense after hitting a line drive, putting two teammates into scoring position. They would go on to score four runs in the third inning and sprinkle in four more runs by the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Saints fought hard to get back into the game. Javier Soto homered to left field to score three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Though a valiant effort from the Saints, it wasn't enough to take the lead back from the Sharks. The Saints lose Game 2 of the series 8-5.
Comments From Coach Wiggs
"Justin Jackson was superb again in Game 1, throwing a complete game. Our offense had the big five-run inning. We saw some good arms from Miami Dade, and we just couldn't do enough in Game 2 along with the fact that we didn't pitch well. We will keep battling. We are right in the middle of the pack after four series, with still a lot of games to go."
