Saints Sweep the Raiders
Gainesville, FL - On Saturday afternoon, the Santa Fe Saints hosted the Seminole State College Raiders for a double header to finish off the series. The Saints lost the first game against the Raiders 9-1 in Sanford, FL. Today, the Saints won the first game with a score of 7-1 and also won the second game with a score of 6-3. Their record progresses to 21-15.
How It Happened
Game One
Justin Jackson started on the mound for the Saints and pitched for the whole nine innings. He allowed two hits, one run, and had six strikeouts. Landon Rogers was the leading hitter for the Saints this afternoon with three hits and one RBI. Grant Gallagher also had an impressive two RBI's.
The starting pitcher for the Raiders was Garrett Brewer and he pitched for three innings. He allowed nine hits, six runs, and had one strikeout. Jhoander Irigoyen, Dillon Costello, and Osmin Melendez were the leading hitters with one hit each.
The Raiders scored first in the top of the first inning to quickly start the game 1-0. Javier Soto gave the Saints their first hit in the bottom of the first inning but did not make it home.
In the second inning, Wyatt Campbell added another hit to the board but got out on a double play with Connor Fosnow to end the inning.
In the third inning, Drake Harman was up first for the Saints and made it to 1st base off of a successful bunt. Landon Rogers hit a double down the 3rd base line to advance Drake Harman from 1st base to 3rd base with no outs on the board. Grant Gallagher hit a double to bring both Drake Harman and Landon Rogers home and put the Saints up 2-1. Javier Soto was then walked to advance to 1st base with Grant Gallagher still at 2nd. Grant Gallagher made it home off of a wild pitch and Javier Soto advanced to 3rd base to improve the score to 3-1 with Cory Filley at the plate. Cory Filley then hit a single to bring in Javier Soto and put the Saints ahead 4-1.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, Connor Fosnow started the inning with a single followed by a double from Drake Harman to send Connor Fosnow home. Landon Rogers came to the plate next to hit another single and sent Drake Harman home to secure the Saints 6-1 lead with no outs.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Landon Rogers hit a double to make him 3 for 3 in game one. He made it to 3rd base off of a wild pitch with Griffin Sorrow at the plate. Landon Rogers made it back home thanks to a single from Griffin Sorrow to increase the lead to 7-1 Saints.
The Saints had a total of eleven hits in game one while the Raiders had three hits. The final score of game one was 7-1 Saints.
Game Two
After coming up with the win in game one, Nick Davidson started in the circle for the Saints in game two. He pitched for five innings, had seven strikeouts, and allowed six hits and three runs. Colby Rice also faced the plate for the Saints in game two. The Saints pitchers threw a total of eleven strikeouts.
Drake Harman and Wyatt Campbell were the leading hitters in game two for the Santa Fe Saints. They both had two hits and Harman had two RBI's. BJ Graham also had three RBI's this afternoon.
The starting pitcher for the Raiders was Carter Krawchuk and he pitched for seven innings. He allowed four hits, one run, and had eight strikeouts. Jacob Green was the leading hitter with four hits in game two.
Drake Harman started the game for the Saints in the bottom of the 1st inning with a single but got out trying to steal 2nd base which ended the inning.
The Raiders started off the 2nd inning with a double by Keaton Ference and made it home off a single by Dillon Costello to put the first run on the board of the game and put the Raiders in the lead 1-0.
In the top of the 3rd inning, the Raiders scored 2 more runs off a single from Jhoander Irigoyen and an error on the Saints to advance their lead to 3-0.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, Wyatt Campbell hit a single to get the Saints back in the game. Grant Gallagher then came to the plate and hit another single for the Saints, sending Campbell to 2nd.
AJ Barrios hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the 7th inning to put the Saints on the board 3-1.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, Anthony Fimiano was hit by a pitch to advance to 1st base. Cory Filley then stepped up to the plate as a pinch hitter and walked to 1st, sending Fimiano to 2nd. Drake Harman hit a crucial double bringing in two Saints runs to tie the game 3-3.
Javier Soto had an impressive diving catch in the 9th inning to leave the Raiders scoreless and end the top of the inning. In the bottom of the 9th inning, Wyatt Campbell hit a much needed single to put the Saints on base. Grant Gallagher stepped up to the plate next and was walked, loading up the bases with one out on the board. BJ Graham was the next batter up and hit a walk off three run home run to give the Saints the win.
The Saints finished up the series with seven hits and the Raiders had eight hits. The final score for game two was 6-3 Saints.

On Tuesday, April 2nd, the Saints will travel to Jacksonville, FL for a single game matchup against the Florida State College at Jacksonville Blue Wave. The first pitch will be thrown at 3:00PM EST.
