
Saints Drop Series Against Buccaneers
Fort Myers, FL- The Santa Fe Saints baseball team went on the road Saturday to face the Buccaneers of Florida Southwestern State College in a doubleheader. The Saints lost the first game of the series 16-10 on Thursday in Gainesville. Today the Saints won Game 1 5-4 and lost Game 2 10-0. The Bucs won the series 2-1.
How It Happened
Game 1
Justin Jackson started on the mound for the Saints. He pitched the full seven innings and recorded five strikeouts. Lefty Jordan Huskey and Nate Ward stood on the mound for the Bucs. Together, they had a total of six strikeouts and five walks.
Santa Fe had a total of five hits in the game. Grant Gallagher led the Saints hitting as he went 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Bucs had a total of nine hits. Victor Figueroa led all batters recording four hits on four plate appearances.
The Saints scored all five of their runs in the first two innings. The Bucs scored two runs in the third and fourth innings.
After the fourth inning it became a defensive standoff. The Saints held on to win 5-4.
Game 2
After winning Game 1, the Saints had trouble generating offense in Game 2. On the other hand, the Bucs consistently produced offense from the start along with a strong defensive showing.
Landon Rogers was the only Saint to record a hit. In the top of the third inning, he hit a double on a line drive to right fielder Eric Blair.
Nate Earley led the way for the Bucs offensively, going 2-for-3 from the plate. Center fielder Justin Thomas was a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate.
The Bucs had 11 hits in the game and went on to score 10 runs. The Saints lost Game 2 and dropped the series against a talented Florida Southwestern team.

"We got off to a great start in game one scoring five runs in the first two innings. Justin Jackson did the rest, giving us another good outing in his complete game. In Game 2, we never could get things going and it turned ugly quickly. We will get back to work as we get ready for our Tuesday matchup against FSCJ."
