Saints pitcher Colby Rice signs with Florida Southern College
Gainesville, FL.
Sophomore Colby Rice has decided to join Saints teammate Cory Filley and continue his collegiate baseball career at Florida Southern College.
Rice is originally from Winter Springs, FL, where he went to Winter Springs High School. After his time at Winter Springs, he signed with Santa Fe, later playing both his freshman and sophomore year as a Saint.
In his two year career with the Saints, he has earned eight total saves over 53 innings pitched in 37 appearances. In the 2024 season, Rice earned six saves in 24 appearances, five more saves than anyone else in the Santa Fe bullpen.
Florida Southern is a NCAA Division II school that is one of the 11 teams in the Sunshine State Conference. They are coached by Rick O'Dette, who was named the eighth coach for the program in 2024, after previously coaching at Saint Leo University for seven years. The Moccasins are nine-time national championship winners, with their last coming in 2005.
