Gainesville, FL
Long time Santa Fe Head Baseball Coach, Johnny Wiggs will be inducted into the 2025 NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in May. Wiggs was informed of the selection at the ABCA Convention on January 2nd.
Coach Wiggs took over at Santa Fe in 2007 after 18 seasons from Harry Tholen. In Wiggs' 18 seasons at the helm, he has led the Saints to 582 victories, the most by any Saint coach. Wiggs has also led his teams to nine Mid-Florida Conference Championships, two FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII State Tournament Championships, and two JUCO World Series Appearances, including in 2009 when the Saints were Runner-Ups at the World Series.
Santa Fe College Director of Athletic, Chanda Stebbins stated, "This honor accurately reflects 'excellence in coaching baseball' and for me and our Athletic Department this is so clearly evident in the young men he has led the lives they now live. We are so proud of Coach Wiggs and all that this honor represents."
Over the past 18 seasons, Wiggs has sent 177 players to a four-year institution. Wiggs has had two players sign free agent deals after their time at Santa Fe and seven players have ended up drafted. Wiggs gives much of his success a credit to great players, stating, "I am extremely honored and humbled by all of this. I have been fortunate to be surrounded by a lot of great players and assistant coaches and this is as much their honor as it is mine. I will always be appreciative of the opportunity I have been given to be a head junior college baseball coach for the last 26+ years. We have won a lot of games and championships, but I hope I have made a difference in a lot of player's lives."
Wiggs joins another former Santa Fe Saints coaching legend, Harry Tholen, in the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. Tholen, a former coach of Wiggs, has made an unforgettable impact on Coach Wiggs' life. Wiggs stated, "Coach Harry Tholen gave me my first opportunity to be an assistant coach here at Santa Fe. He has always been such a great mentor for me, and it gives me so much joy to be in the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame with him."
