Gainesville, FL
The Santa Fe Baseball team and Head Coach Johnny Wiggs await the season opener on January 24th. That opener is a road game at Lake-Sumter in Leesburg, Florida.
Coach Wiggs and his new coaching staff, Sage Rodefeld and Tripp Kimmell, have a roster full of veterans. Sixteen of the 28 players on the active roster are spending their second or third season at the collegiate level. Javier Soto and Griffin Sorrow highlight the returners in the lineup from a season ago. Soto fresh off his commitment to the University of Tampa is looking to have another good year at the dish.
On the mound the Saints return four arms that were in the rotation from last season. Nick Staszak, Lucas Johns, Macklin Miller, and Travis Mabin all appeared in 13+ games last season as they look to lead the charge on the bump.
Coach Wiggs added three transfers to his ball team, including Erik Blair, Robert Nedry, and Rex Smith. Blair begun his college career at the University of Florida, before transferring to Florid SouthWestern then back to Gainesville. Nedry joins SF from North Carolina State, where he was on the roster that made the College World Series. Smith comes from State College of Florida.
The Saints come into the Season just outside the Preseason Top 25 in the nation according to Prep Baseball. In the preseason coach's poll, the Saints find themselves ranked 8th in the FCSAA.
