Saints Drop MFC Opener to Central Florida, 61-56
Ocala, FL – It was the type of game Santa Fe coach Chris Mowry wanted Saturday evening in Ocala. A low scoring, defensive battle that would give the short-handed Saints (12-8, 0-1 MFC) a chance to stay with Central Florida on the road. The result was not what the Saints had in mind, but they were in it until the end despite dressing just eight players.

CF looked like they may pull away in the early going when they took a 12 point lead midway through the first half, but a late charge by the Saints gave SF a 26-23 lead at the halftime break.
In the second half it was back and forth between the Saints and the Patriots until the SF shots quit falling.
Santa Fe struggled to make baskets over the final seven minutes and Central Florida stretched the lead to as many as nine before hanging on for the five point win.
SF welcomed back Morris Marshall to the fold after missing three games, and he answered the bell with 26 points, leading all scorers. Brandon Williams had 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Allen Baez had 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
The Saints will play their next game on the road at Florida State College-Jacksonville on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:00 PM
