Gainesville, FL – The Gulf Coast State College Commodores made eight three pointers in the first half in route to a 15 point halftime lead, and played nearly even with the Santa Fe College Saints in the second half for an 80-64 win on the second day of the Florida Colleges Shootout.
"Gulf Coast shot the ball really well in the first half, and we never were able to quite get back into it," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We have to give a lot of credit to their guys."
The Saints were without three key players, Elijah Gore, Javon Heastie, and LaBrian Shiflet, all guards, making it even more difficult to defend the perimeter with limited numbers.
Gulf Coast made 10 three pointers in the game, shooting 50% from behind the line.
Leo Edwards led Santa Fe with 16 points and 13 rebounds, Alphonso Brown had 13 points and six rebounds off the bench, and Ty Birts had 10 points.
The Saints will hit the road on Wednesday for a game against Hillsborough, before taking a break until January 4 when they host St. Petersburg College at home at 5:00 PM.
