ST. PETERSBURG DEFEATS SANTA FE, 90-84
Gainesville, FL – In a game that saw both teams get up and down the floor for a majority of the 40 minutes, St. Petersburg College was able to outlast the Santa Fe Saints 90-84.
Santa Fe (7-10) led by as many as eight in the first half, but a late run by Titans put them ahead 37-35 at the halftime break.
In the second period SPC (11-8) scored the first four points to go ahead by six, and never lost the lead from there, holding off numerous SF runs. The Saints cut the margin to one on three occasions, but each time the Titans were up to the task, scoring on their next possession to extend their lead. Santa Fe got it as close as four with under a minute to go, but the Titans were clutch at the free throw line, icing their 11th win of the season.
LaBrian Shiflet returned from injury after missing the last six games, scoring 25 points to lead all scorers. Jarred Anderson finished with 16, Alex Brown had 13, and Ty Birts 11. The Saints were without four key players, including starting forwards Benjy Dumornay and Leo Edwards.
Santa Fe will head out on the road to open Mid-Florida Conference play on Saturday in Jacksonville against Florida State College-Jacksonville at 4:00 PM.
