Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints got off to a hot start on Monday evening in Gainesville against TAAG Academy, building a 40-21 halftime lead on the strength of their defense an attacking offense.
"I thought we did some good things on offense, attacked the basket, and played unselfishly," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We were a little too sloppy with the ball and turned it over too much, especially in the second half."
Defensively SF was on top of their game again in the second period, holding the Ambassadors to 22 points on 10-of-30 shooting. The Saints never found their touch from the outside, finishing 3-for-16 from the three point line, but found other ways to score, shooting 53% from the field.
Leo Edwards led SF with 14 points and seven rebounds, Nick Rosa had 13 points and nine boards, LaBrian Shiflet finished with 12 points, and Josh Hawkins had 11.
"We have three games left and we are right in the thick of the conference race," said Mowry. "Our guys are ready to finish strong and make a push for a MFC title and a bid to the FCSAA Tournament."
The Saints final stretch begins on Saturday, February 13 in Jacksonville against the Blue Wave of FSC-J at 4:00 PM. SF will then return home on Wednesday, February 17 for a game against Daytona State at 8:00 PM before wrapping up the season against the College of Central Florida on the road in Ocala on February 20 at 7:30 PM.
