Taylor-Hodge Goes for 34, Saints Open New Year with 101-93 Win
Gainesville, FL – After a slow start to their first game in the new year, the Santa Fe Saints came alive in the second half, defeating a tough FCSAA #8 Indian River State College team in Gainesville 101-93.
D-Juan Taylor Hodge had his best half as a Saint, pouring in 29 of his game high 34 points. As a team, SF shot 63% from the field and made eight three pointers to overcome a six point half time deficit.
The FCSAA #10 Saints (12-5) trailed by as many as 13 in the first half, but 15 points from Darrell Jones and 12 from Nick Peacock on four threes made the deficit manageable heading into the final 20 minutes.
"We came out in the second half and really turned on the defensive intensity the first five minutes or so," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "Once we had the lead we shot the ball well to hang on."
Santa Fe shot 50% from the field and 40% from the three point line to earn their sixth straight win.
Joining Taylor-Hodge in double figures were Darrell Jones with 26 points, Nick Peacock had a season high 22, and Sean Flood scored 13.
The Saints will open conference play on Saturday, January 6 at home against Florida State College-Jacksonville at 4:00 p.m. The game can be seen live on the Saints Sports Network.
