No. 24 Men's Basketball Dispatches Florida Gateway, 70-55
LAKE CITY, Fla. – No. 24 Santa Fe Men's Basketball took to the court against Florida Gateway College for the second time this season, and although the Saints didn't quite have their best outing, SF left Lake City with a 70-55 victory and led the whole way.
First Half – No. 24 SF 38, FGC 31
Santa Fe came out firing and hit three early three-pointers, two of which came from Hasan Abdul-Hakim. His second gave SF the 11-6 advantage with 15:57 on the clock.
The Saints led 20-16 nearing the half's midway point, when they began a 12-0 run to open up a 32-16 lead with 6:45 remaining. All five of the Saints' baskets during the run came from inside the paint, and Kordell Brown had four points.
Although the Timberwolves finished the half well, SF still led by seven at the half. Abdul-Hakim had ten points after the game's first 20 minutes of play.
Second Half – No. 24 SF 70, FGC 55
For the first time since the game's opening minutes, the Timberwolves were able to cut their deficit to a single possession, 42-39, with 16:17 left to play.
Nasir Mann didn't allow the hosts to get any closer, however, and he found his mark with back-to-back trifectas to widen the gap to nine.
Leading 57-49 with 6:50 on the clock, Santa Fe put the finishing touches on the road victory with an 8-0 spurt, going on to sweep the season-series with the Timberwolves with the 70-55 result.
Key Statistics
The Saints wreaked some havoc on the defensive end to hold the Timberwolves to just the 55 points, while compiling 14 steals and six blocks. FGC shot just 37.3 percent from the field in the loss.
The rebounding battle went in favor of the Saints, 41-33.
Four Saints were in double-figures offensively, led by Abdul-Hakim's 16. He added eight rebounds, four blocks, and four steals.
Brown had 12 points and six rebounds, Eddie Foster III finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Mann had ten points and seven rebounds.
