Men's Basketball Comfortable in 84-68 Win over Daytona State
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe College Men's Basketball picked up win No. 2 in the Central Conference with an 84-68 result over Daytona State College.
The Saints never trailed in this one, and executed their game plan to remain perfect on their home floor this season at 10-0.
First Half – SF 41, DSC 31
The Saints held a 23-7 lead nearing the half's midway point, which included a 10-0 run to take control.
SF canned three triples in the early going, with two coming from Nicolas McClain.
Daytona State trimmed their deficit to just four points, 23-19, with a quick spurt of 12 unanswered points, capped off by a layup in transition.
The Saints didn't let them draw closer, however, and pushed their advantage back up to double-digits in the final second of the half on a second-chance, hustle basket from Eddie Foster III (pictured).
Second Half – SF 84, DSC 68
The lead swelled to 15, 58-43, after a dunk from Nikolaos Noumeros with 13:58 on the clock.
Although the Falcons cut the Saints' lead to eight with a mini-run of their own, that was the closest they would come the rest of the way.
Leading 67-54 with about eight minutes to play, SF rattled off ten straight points to open up their largest lead of the game, 77-54. Hasan Abdul-Hakim had five points during that stretch of play to help create the sizeable lead.
The final minutes of play saw Daytona State continue to find success from beyond the three-point line, but Santa Fe was in firm control and preserved the win by taking care of the basketball down the stretch against Daytona's attempts to trap and force turnovers.
Key Statistics
Santa Fe held advantages in the rebounding and turnover margins, 43-34 in the rebounding category while forcing Daytona State into 18 miscues compared to 11 from the Saints.
Points in the paint were 44-22 in favor of the hosts.
SF also had an efficient shooting night, finishing 33-of-70 from the field (47.1 percent), 8-of-24 from three-point territory (33.3 percent), and 10-of-14 from the charity stripe.
Every started notched double-digit scoring for the Saints in the victory.
Bradley Douglas and McClain led the way offensively with 17 points apiece.
Noumeros had his second double-double of the season, contributing 14 points and ten rebounds while going 6-of-7 from the field.
Foster III had his first career-double, adding ten points and ten rebounds, seemingly tracking down every loose ball while being disruptive on defense to match a career-high of five steals.
Abdul-Hakim had a well-rounded stat line with ten points, a career-high nine assists, and six rebounds.
