Polk State Stuns Men's Basketball with Buzzer-Beating Launch, 84-82
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Santa Fe College men's basketball thought they had come away with a victory at Polk State on Saturday afternoon, but the Eagles' George Pridgett stunned the Saints with a buzzer-beating bank from beyond halfcourt to win the game, 84-82.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The score was tied on six occasions and the lead changed hands ten times in this one, but the Eagles had the final say.
SF led by 10 points with about ten minutes left on the clock, but the hosts began to chip away and work themselves right back into.
The game came down to the wire. Polk took an 81-80 lead with a minute remaining with two free-throws.
SF had an empty possession and Kordell Brown was called for a foul after an offensive rebounds scramble with 13 seconds left. Pridgett missed the free throw, however, and the Saints came down with the chance to win it.
Nikolaos Noumeros' triple clanged off the rim, Nigel Martin soared in for a tipback that missed its mark, and in the frenzy, it was Nasir Mann who put another second-chance opportunity home with just a little over a second left to play.
After a timeout and on the ensuing inbound, the Eagles found Pridgett curling toward the middle of the floor, when his three-courter court, miraculous heave sent the Saints to heartbreak.
