Second Half Push Not Enough to Overcome Pioneers
Fort Pierce, FL- On Saturday, the Saints traveled down south to face Indian River State College. The Saints were looking to gett a much needed win on the road. This would prove to be a tall task as the Pioneers are a perfect 10-0 at home.
How It Happened
The Saints got off to a slow start allowing the Pioneers to jump out to an 11-2 lead. Early on the Pioneers placed additional pressure on the Saints' offense with a mixture of full court and half court pressures which successfully caused five turnovers.
In the first half the Saints' offensive charge was led by Kevin Pazmino as he hit five triples in the first half. He had 20 points on the day. Pedrag Panisic (9 points) and Karmelo Branch (21 points) hit a set of back to back triples helping the Saints to take their first and only lead of the game with a score of 22-20.
However, this only briefly stunned the Pioneers as they began to fire off a flurry of three point baskets hitting a total of thirteen in the first half. Offensively, Michael Sanchez led the way for the Pioneers as he scored 12 points (four triples) in the first half.
In the second half the Saints struck first with a slam dunk by Pedrag Panisic assisted by Kevin Pazmino. This was follwed by a triple by Ashton Lovette. The Pioneers then went on a 8-0 run until Pedrag Panisic and Harvey Wilson (off the bench) helped to give the Saints a lift. Wilson had 8 points.
The Saints fought hard, including a much needed and one basket by Trey Munson who completed the three point play. However, the excellent shooting by the Pioneers coupled with their strong rebounding and defense, kept the Saints at bay for the remainder of the second half. They would go on to win with a score of 108-83.
Comments From Coach Mowry
"Indian River is a very good team. Their size created problems for us inside and they shot the 3 pointer really well. We were good enough on offense when we didn't turn it over, but defensively we have a long way to go."
