Amidst Weather Interruptions, Softball Beats Eastern Florida State College 5-4
MELBOURNE, Fla. – In a day with multiple weather delays and a cancellation of the doubleheader's second game due to lightning, Santa Fe College softball came away with their fifth consecutive victory, a 5-4 win at Eastern Florida State College.
GAME 1 – SF 5, EFSC 4
Lightning in the area delayed the start of the game and another delay interrupted play in the second inning.
Santa Fe, however, jumped out in front 2-0 in the opening inning, and used that early advantage to stave off the Titans.
After both Jayelyn Carter and Grace Prom reached base, Madison Dixon drove them both in with a double to give the Saints the 2-0 lead.
Eastern Florida cut the deficit in half with a sacrifice fly in the third frame.
Santa Fe quickly responded in the top of the fourth, plating three runs. The bases were loaded with no outs, and after a force out at home plate, Isabella Santiago put the ball in play, grounding out to score Neely Peterson.
Carter's two-out double in the next at-bat brought both Cris'Deona Beasley and Shaela Bybee in to score, putting the Saints in front 5-1.
The Titans scored two in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a 5-3 game, then added a solo home run in their final at-bats to make it 5-4.
Beasley, however, held her nerve and finished out her complete game from the circle, inducing two fly outs to end the game. In her third win of the season and second complete game, Beasley allowed eight hits and two walks. Three of the four Ttans runs were earned, and Beasley notched nine strikeouts.
Carter had three of the Saints' six hits, finishing with a two-out, two-RBI double and a run scored. Dixon's two-RBI double in the opening inning also proved to be a critical hit in the Saints' win.

Fico's Focus
"I was extremely impressed with our level of energy throguhout the day despite multiple weather delays," said Head Coach Lindsay Fico. "Our dugout stayed focused and supportive the entire time. Cris'Deona Beasley threw another very competitive game against a strong lineup, and she continues to grow every outing. Madison Dixon blew it open early and continues to produce in pressure situations. All in all, we were strong from the top to the bottom of our lineup at the plate today."
