ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – After a narrow, 2-1 win in Game 1 at St. Petersburg, Santa Fe Softball swept the day's doubleheader with a run-rule, 15-0 thrashing of the Titans in Game 2.
GAME 1 - SF 2, SPC 1
It was a pitcher's duel in the opener, and all three of the game's run came in the opening inning.
SF went ahead 2-0 in the top of the first, after Madison Dixon had a two-out, RBI double. The Saints then took advantage of an error in the ensuing at-bat from the Titans that helped bring Dixon around to score.
In the bottom of the first. St. Petersburg scored a run on four consecutive walks from starter Sophie Abrams, who then gave way to Kaylie Araujo. Araujo stranded three base runners with a strikeout to keep the Saints in front.
Araujo and the defense were solid for the remainder of the game, and the two runs proved to be enough. In the bottom of the seventh, the Titans had bases loaded with one out, but SF got out of the jam with a fielder's choice, Story Giebeig at third base to Brooke Hackim at catcher, followed by a flyout to center field.
Araujo improved to 2-0 with the win from the circle, finishing with a line of 6.1 innings pitched, three hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.
Dixon's RBI double was the only extra-base hit for SF, as the Saints found a way to win despite just four hits.
GAME 2 - SF 15, SPC 0 (5 INN.)
The bats came alive in the nightcap, however, as the Saints steamrolled past the hosts with an impressive display from the batter's box.
After a scoreless first inning, the Saints put up three runs in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, and for good measure, seven in the fifth.
The Saints had 11 hits in this one with 12 RBI and eight walks.
Every starter came around to score a run. Olivia Larkin, Ayanna Woodard, Giebeig, and Morgan Lebeda each finished with two hits.
Abrianna Hickox had a double, while Giebeig and Lebeda homered. Giebeig paced SF with four RBI.
The Saints were able to once again limit the St. Petersburg bats to minimal production.
Starter Darian Ingram moved to 3-2 from the circle by throwing four innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out eight Titans. Calen Hayes came in for the fifth to record the contest's final out.
