
Ingram Lights Out in Circle, Saints Salvage Split with Tallahassee
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tallahassee (15-5) visited the Santa Fe Softball Field for the two team's final two games of 2022, and after the Eagles escaped with a 4-3 win in Game 1, Darian Ingram was exceptional in the circle in Game 2 to shutout TCC, 6-0.
GAME 1 - TCC 4, SF 3
The Saints went ahead 1-0 in the day's opener, when Jayelyn Carter touched home on a fielder's choice RBI from Story Giebeig.
In the circle. Saints' starter Sophie Abrams cruised through the game's first five innings, keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard.
TCC, however, scored their first runs of the game and put up four in the sixth to grab a 4-1 lead. After a two-out RBI single there were two runners still on base, and a three-run home run to left field in the next at-bat stunned SF.
The Saints stranded two in the bottom of the sixth, and after Abrams had a 1-2-3 frame in the top of the seventh, SF took their cuts in the bottom half hoping to mount a comeback.
After an Eagle error, a Giebeig double made it 4-2. She then advanced to third on a passed ball, and made the score 4-3 when Adrianna Saavedra singled.
The Eagles were able to induce a groundout to strand the game-tying run, handing SF just their second loss at home this season.
Key Statistics
Abrams allowed five hits, two walks, and the four unearned runs to take a loss from the circle, despite the quality outing. She struck out three Eagles.
Keeli Zingaro went 2-of-4 with a run scored and a double, while Giebeig was 1-of-3 with a run scored, two RBI, a walk, and a double of her own. Saavedra accounted for the Saints' other RBI.
GAME 2 - SF 6, TCC 0
The series finale saw the Saints' Ingram pitch a gem in her fourth consecutive complete game, two of which have been shutouts.
The Eagles had little chance offensively to do damage against Ingram's best stuff, and the Saints' bats had a more productive display in Game 2.
With a run in the first, two more the third, and three more for insurance in the sixth, Ingram had more than enough run support to pick up her seventh win of the season.
The Saints rallied with two outs in the first to bring across the single tally, with Giebeig driving in Zingaro with another double.
Giebeig came through in the clutch once again with a two-out, two RBI home run in the third, her ninth of the season.
The three runs in the sixth were once again put on with two-outs already recorded, After back-to-back singles from Madison Dixon and Carter, Riley Schnyder connected for a two-bagger to right field. Schnyder touched home for what would prove to be the final on an run on an RBI single from Zingaro.
Ingram ended the game in style, striking out two more swinging Eagles for the final outs.
Key Statistics
Ingram (7-3) finished the game with eight K's, with just two hits, two walks, and one hit batter. Following the win, Ingram's ERA dropped to an impressive 0.98.
The first four batters for SF accounted for seven of the Saints' nine hits. Doubles came from the bats of Schnyder, Giebeig, and Brooke Hackim, while Giebeig added the game's only homer to bring her RBI count to three in the game. Schnyder had two RBI, while Zingaro added the other.
