SANFORD, Fla. – Seminole State hosted Santa Fe Softball on Tuesday afternoon, and the Saints fell twice to the Raiders in the season's first doubleheader between the two Mid-Florida Conference foes, 9-0 and 6-3.
Seminole State took over first place in the MFC standings with the sweep, while Santa Fe fell into third.
GAME 1 - SEMINOLE 9, SF 0 (5 INN.)
It was a first inning to forget for SF, as the Raiders jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back.
Seminole State added two more runs in the second and fourth innings to put the run rule into effect, and the SF bats could never get going in the opener.
Key Statistics
The Saints mustered just two hits, both singles from Keeli Zingaro and Abrianna Hickox.
Starter Sophie Abrams (9-6) was charged with the loss after being unable to record an out, while Kaylie Araujo (0.1 IP) and Calen Hayes (3.2 IP) also took to the circle.
GAME 2 - SEMINOLE 6, SF 3
The Raiders scored first once again, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly.
Santa Fe scored their first runs of the doubleheader in the third inning, taking a 2-1 lead. Zingaro had an RBI single to score Morgan Lebeda, and Story Giebeig had a sacrifice fly to plate Olivia Larkin.
The SF lead didn't last all too long, however, as the Raiders rallied with two outs to bring across two more runs and establish a 3-2 lead.
Seminole State once again took huge advantage of two-out production in the bottom of the fifth, when a three-run homer to center field cleared the bases and brought the score to 6-2.
A pinch-hit RBI double from Brianna Arsenault scored SF's third run in the sixth, but a Riley Schnyder leadoff double in the seventh inning was stranded in the Saints' comeback effort.
Key Statistics
Larkin went 2-of-3 from the leadoff spot with a run scored and walk. Five others had hits, with doubles from Arsenault and Schnyder. Zingaro, Giebeig, and Arsenault had an RBI apiece.
Darian Ingram (10-5) conceded six hits, six runs (four earned), and two walks while striking out two in 4.2 innings pitched. Abrams held the Raiders scoreless over the last four outs with one hit and one strikeout.
