
Santa Fe Sweeps Polk State
Gainesville, FL- On Thursday afternoon, the Saints faced off against Polk State College at home for a doubleheader conference matchup. This is the first time these teams have played each other this year. Santa Fe won the first game 7-2 and took Game 2 4-1. The Saints are now 14-7 on the season.
How It Happened
Game 1
Mallory Forrester started out in the circle for the Saints. She pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts and surrendered only three hits and two runs. Starting from the first pitch, the Saints played solid defense to hold the Eagles to zero runs until the top of the sixth inning.
The top hitter for the Saints was Ariana Wright, who went 2-for-3 at the plate, recording two doubles and three RBIs. Sydney Fowler and Karris Rhine also batted well, each going 2-for-3 at the plate. Top hitters for the Eagles were Jamie Reinhardt, who went 1-for-2 at the plate, and Jill Hudson, who batted in the only two runs for the Eagles.
The Saints woke up the bats in the bottom of the third inning when they hit two RBI doubles (Fowler and Wright). Wright would go on to hit another double in the fifth inning as the Saints continued to find ways to score and hold Polk State to only to runs. The final score was 7-2.
Game 2
Ryleigh Bauer was the starting pitcher for the Saints in Game 2. She pitched four innings with no earned runs and one hit. Peyton Bass came into the game in relief for three innings, giving up only one run and two hits. This led to a stout defensive showing by the Saints. There were zero errors recorded for the Saints.
Ariana Wright was the leading batter for the Saints in Game 2. She went 1-for-2 at the plate with one double, two RBIs, and one walk. Sydney Fowler, Kamaya Cohen, and Madi Conway also recorded one hit each. Santa Fe defeated Polk State with a final score of 4-1.
