
Santa Fe Splits With #6 Central Florida
Gainesville, FL- On Tuesday, the Santa Fe softball team faced a high-powered conference rival in the #6 ranked College of Central Florida Patriots at home. The Saints split the two game series winning Game 1 4-2 and dropping Game 2 10-2. They are scheduled to play again on Tuesday, April 9th in Ocala, FL.
How It Happened
Game 1
Despite committing three errors, the Saints defense held up against the high-powered offense of the Patriots, who are currently batting .404 on the season. The Saints are batting .306 on the season.
Mallory Forrester stood in the circle for the Saints and recorded the win. She pitched seven innings having five strikeouts, two hits and only one earned run. Haley Guffey started in the circle for the Patriots. The lefty pitched a full six innings with three strikeouts and three earned runs.
Sydney Fowler led the way batting for the Saints going 2-for-3 at the plate, including a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. Jayla Clark, Ariana Wright, Kamaya Cohen, and Juliann Smith also each recorded a hit. They had a total of six hits.
The Patriots recorded only two hits in Game 1. Caitlin Blankenship and Emma Rogel each had one hit.
Game 2
In Game 2, the Patriots showed up with more grit and determination. Their bats came alive from the very first batter (Megan Loftis) who singled on a bunt down the third baseline. The next batter (Leah Clark) walked. With runners on first and second base, Hailey Scott hit an RBI triple to score two. Emma Rogel bunted and reached first base on an error. With the score 2-0, the Patriots continued to capitalize.
Sydney Fowler scored after Alexis Daphney reached first base on error. The Patriots went up with a score of 6-1 after Leah Clark homered on a line drive to left field in the top of the fifth inning. The Saints also added to their score after Ariana Wright scored on an RBI single produced by Juliann Smith. The Patriots continued to outpace the Saints as the game would end with a final score of 10-2.

The Saints travel to Sarasota to face the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota on Thursday, March 14th in another conference doubleheader matchup. The first pitch is set for 2PM EDT.
