Gainesville, FL
Indian River State College, the third-ranked team in the nation, showed why it is a top team in the NJCAA with a 5-0 win in game one. Both teams pitched and played defense at a high level, as IRSC struck first in the top of the third inning. Indian River followed up the third with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-0 lead. The lead would hold for IRSC as the Saints could not get their bats going.
Kelsey Harper was the only Saint in game one to have multiple hits with two in the game. Harper also reached via a walk. Ryleigh Bauer started in the circle going 4.1 innings allowing three this and four runs (three earned runs). Bauer walked three and struck out five in the game. Belle Mancillas pitched in 2.2 innings allowing one run and three hits.
In game two of the doubleheader, the Saints woke up offensively to win 4-3. Indian River opened the top of the first with two runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Saints struck for two in the bottom of the third inning to tie it up at two all. A run in the fifth for both teams kept it tied. Santa Fe scored on a Ryleigh Bennett base hit to take the 4-3 lead.
Bennett started for SF on the mound going 6.0 innings. Bennett allowed five hits, and three runs (one earned runs) while striking out four. Alexis Daphney entered in the seventh for the save. Daphney struck out one and walked one in her inning of work. Karris Rhine and Bennett also led the way in the batter's box. Rhine went 2-3 with two runs batted in. Bennett went 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
The Saints have now won eight of their last ten, including three wins against NJCAA top ten teams.
Santa Fe is back in action on Tuesday versus Seminole State College of Florida in Gainesville beginning at 2:00 PM.
