Saints Lose Rematch with Seminole
#15 Santa Fe loses by one run to #6 Seminole in FCSAA Division I Softball Championships
Clearwater, FL
The Saints squared off against Seminole State for the fifth time this season in a four versus five seed match up in the final game of the FCSAA Division I Softball Championship opening day round. #6 in the NJCAA poll Seminole State started off the bottom of the first inning against the #15 Saints by filling the bases and earning a walk that forced a run in. They took the early lead and looked like they controlled the Saints. Neither team committed an error as the low scoring affair went into the top of the fifth with the Raiders still up by one. The Saints were able to answer in the top of the fifth as Tegan Grizzard walked and Kelsey Harper moved her to second. Rylie Blankenship was able to single and move Grizzard to third with Karris Rhine coming to plate. Rhine delivered a sacrifice fly to right field and Grizzard scored to bring the Saints and Raiders even at one. The Raiders would follow up in the bottom of the fifth with another run to make the final score 2-1 in their favor.
The Saints will play on Thursday in the 1:00 PM game versus Gulf Coast State College. Gulf Coast played in the Wild Card game Tuesday night and upset Miami Dade which earned them the right to play #1 FSW on Wednesday. They lost the game 0-21 in a shorten run rule game after five innings. The Saints will look to bounce back with a victory to play on for opportunity to capture the District B Championship.
