Gainesville, FL – South Georgia Tech came to Gainesville on Saturday and defeated the Santa Fe Saints despite 28 points from Ari Emanuel-Wright, handing SF (3-3) their first home loss of the season. SGTC remains undefeated at 6-0.
The two teams played evenly through the first ten minutes, taking a 15-15 score into the second quarter. The Saints outplayed the Jets in the second period, taking a 39-35 lead into halftime.
SGTC came out of the locker room defensive minded and held Santa Fe to 14 points grabbing a 59-53 lead heading into the final period.
The Saints made a run down the stretch, but the Jets were able to hold on for their sixth win of the season.
Tabitha Odabe finished the game with nine points, Evelina Avleeva and Corey Staples had eight. Staples left the game early with an undisclosed injury in the second quarter and did not return.
South Georgia outrebounded the Saints 36-31, something Coach Chanda Stebbins believes hurt Santa Fe in the end.
"Their bigs played really well today," said Coach Stebbins. "We won't win many games getting outrebounded like that."
The Saints will now head out on the road for a game against Eastern Florida State College on Tuesday, November 22 at 5:30 PM
