Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints never got it going on the offensive end against South Georgia Tech after an eight day lay-off, shooting just 20% from the field in a 62-49 defeat to the Jets Wednesday night. SGTC improved to 9-1 with the win and SF moves to 4-4.
Santa Fe started the game hot, scoring 17 points through the first seven minutes of the game, but then couldn't get anything to go over the next six, allowing the Jets to pull ahead 23-17 with seven minutes to go in the half.
The Saints held SGTC to just 10 second quarter points, but their own offensive woes led to just eight points for the home team.
"We aren't going to win any games shooting 20% from the field," said SF Coach Stebbins. "On a positive note I thought we played better in the second half and pursued the ball defensively. We just have to shoot better than that."
Santa Fe kept the game close heading into the fourth quarter, trailing by just five, but never got the offense going, allowing 21 Jets points to their 13.
Brianna Richardson finished with a team high 15 points for Santa Fe and Ivana Boyd had 12.
SF will look to turn things around on December 1 in Daytona when they battle Pensacola State College at the Florida Colleges Shootout at 12 noon. On Saturday they will continue in the Shootout in Jacksonville against Florida Southwestern College at 6:00 p.m.
