Saints Win Fourth Straight, 84-75 over St. Pete
The Santa Fe Saints won their fourth consecutive game, 84-75 over St. Petersburg State College, and have now won seven of their last eight games. Janasia Law hit three 3-pointers in the opening quarter as the Saints jumped out to a 12-0 lead to start the game and held a 23-12 advantage after the first period.
"We started out strong, but let them get back into the game in the second quarter," said SF Head Coach Chanda Stebbins. "We have to learn to play through calls and things we haven't anticipated." The Titans turned the tables on the Saints, outscoring them 21-12 in the second quarter to cut the Saints lead to two at 35-33 at the half. Camille Pringle and Rhea Smith each scored six points in the decisive third period as SF opened up a 62-53 lead going into the final stanza.
The Saints (8-4) hit 13 of 15 free throws in the final 10 minutes to preserve the win and were 21 or 26 from the charity stripe for the game.
Law led the Saints in scoring with 22 pts while Airneisha Gamble, Pringle and Smith each scored 10. Gamble also pulled down 11 rebounds to record the double-double for the game.
"We have had a couple of players really step up the last few games with season or career best, tonight it was Pringle," said Stebbins. "Nene (Gamble) did a great job controlling the boards after a couple of our inside players got in foul trouble."
The Saints, presently ranked # 8 in the latest FCSAA Coaches Poll, will be off to take their final exams this week before traveling to Melbourne next Saturday to take on Eastern Florida State College.
