
Saints Keep The Sharks At Bay
Miami Fl. - On Saturday January 6th, the Santa Fe Saints traveled down south to face the Miami-Dade Sharks for their first meeting of the season. Both teams were focused on the win as they have dropped their last last two. In the fourth quarter this game would be postponed as the floor conditions became unplayable. With only 7:12 left in the fourth quarter this game would be postponed, advantage Santa Fe.
How It Happened
Both teams started out struggling shooting from the floor until Khaleah Douglas made a triple from the from the key, putting the Saints up 3-0. Leyah Houston scored another basket giving the Saints a 5-0 lead. The Sharks continued to struggle from the field scoring their first point at the 6:28 mark. Before the first period ended the Sharks had found a rythym. At the end of the period 15-16 (Saints).
In the second period, the Saints stepped up their defense and their scoring. They were led by Leyah Houston who scored eight points. Kamryn Robinson added another six points (two triples). The score at halftime was 38-28.
In the third period, the Saints jumped out to a fifteen point lead. Shakiria Chaney and Kamryn Robinson both lead scored nine points each in the third period helping the Saints to a twenty four point quarter (highest scoring quarter of the night). The Sharks scored fifteen points in the period. By the end of the third quarter, the Saints had increased their lead to nineteen points.
With only three minutes of the fourth quarter played, the floor conditions became unplayable and the game was postponed with a score of 66-50. The two teams would meet up again to finish the game on January 30 with only 7:12 remaining to play. After withstanding a three point attack (two from Iva Cholakoska) by the Sharks, the Saints were still able hold on for the win 76-66.
