Volleyball Sweeps St. Johns River to Improve to 4-2
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe College women's volleyball made quick work of the 7-3 St. Johns River State College, sweeping the match by scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-21.
With the win, SF improved to 10-2 in the all-time series with the Vikings, who came into the match ranked No. 15 in the NJCAA Division II.
Set 1 began with Santa Fe starting off strong, jumping out to a 4-1 lead, before St. Johns River stormed back and tied it at 4-4.
Later in the set, Sante Fe would jump to a comfortable 19-12 lead before St. Johns Rivers made things interesting, coming back within a point of Santa Fe's 23-22 lead.
Santa Fe would earn the final two points, however, taking the set 25-22 with a winning strike by Larissa Seger-Griebeler.
Set 2 would begin with both teams battling, but the Vikings would take a 5-3 lead. St. Johns Rivers would still stay ahead 10-8, then ultimately 14-11 halfway through the set before Santa Fe took its first timeout of the match.
Santa Fe came out of the timeout SCORCHING hot and kept the fire going, ultimately winning 14 of the next 15 points to take the the second set, 25-15, on a kill from Keionna Mackey.
Set 3 began with both teams tied at 4-4. They would still be tied at 10-10, before St. Johns Rivers went on to win three points in a row to force an SF timeout.
Santa Fe was able to regain the lead, however, and completed the sweep in front of the home crowd with a 25-21 result in Set 3, finished off by Seger-Griebeler yet again.
