
Sharks beat Saints in Three
Saints Fall to #2 Sharks

The Saints hosted the #2 Miami Dade College Sharks on Wednesday night. The Saints lost in three sets 13-25, 15-25, 15-25.
Madison Villanueva had the Saints' first kill to even the first set 1-1, but the Sharks went on a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 lead. Linnea Preston and Maria Freitas brought the score back to 4-3 with a block assist. Mariana Haas kept the Saints close with two kills to cut the Sharks' lead to 11-9. The Sharks built their lead to 20-11, and Maria Contreras gave the Saints another point with a misdirection kill. The Sharks won the first set 25-13.
The Saints took the first point of the second set from a service error by the Sharks, and Maria Freitas and Riley Solomon extended the lead to 3-0 with a kill each. The Sharks took their first lead at 5-4, and the Saints called a timeout after going down 7-4. Maria Freitas had a kill immediately after the timeout. Riley Solomon recorded a couple kills of her own, but the Sharks brought up set point at 24-12. An ace by Aria Eisel brought the score to 24-15, but the Sharks took the second set 25-15.
Maria Contreras opened the third set with an ace, and Maria Freitas maintained the lead 5-4 with a kill. A block by Maria Contreras extended the Saints' lead to 6-4. The Sharks tied the set 6-6, and Mariana Haas took the lead back with a kill. The Sharks took their first lead at 8-7, and the Saints took a timeout after going down 11-7. Jessica Mckee had a kill to keep the gap at 14-10, but the Sharks held on to win the third set 25-15.
The Saints will travel to Fort Myers, FL on Saturday, September 21st to face the #1 Florida Southwestern State College Buccaneers at 2:00 PM EDT.
