Gainesville, FL – David Lee pitched a strong game in the first half of a double header against Pensacola State to lead Santa Fe to a 5-2 victory over the Pirates, and Kyle Morton followed him up with a solid start in a 6-5 Saints victory. The two wins move FCSAA #8 SF to 13-3 on the season.
Lee (3-0, 2.21 ERA) threw all but one out of game one, striking out seven and inducing nine ground ball outs. Call Graham pitched the final out for the save, his third of the year.
Santa Fe scored two in the first for an early lead, and retook the lead in the third 3-2 after PSC tied it in the top half of the inning. The Saints added two insurance runs on RBI singles by Wyatt Meisterhans and Robbie Hanlon.
Each team had five hits with Santa Fe capitalizing on their opportunities and taking advantage of Pirate mistakes to pull out the win.
Morton (1-1) started game two and held the Pirates hitless until the fourth inning. SF spotted him a four spot in the first on RBU by Chad Stockdale, Haydn Cano, Tyler Kinney, and Hugo Valdes.
Matt Allen added a solo homerun (1) in the second and Stockdale knocked in another one in the sixth for a 6-1 SF lead.
Pensacola didn't go quietly, scoring four runs between the sixth and seventh inning to nearly pull off the stunning comeback. The Pirates put a runner at second base with one out, but Call Graham closed out the game for his second save of the day and fourth of the year.
Allen, Stockdale, and Kinney paced the SF offense with two hits apiece, and Stockdale had two RBI.
The Saints continue their three day home stand on Sunday against Indian River at 1:00 PM.
