Marianna, FL – For just the second time in school history and first time in Marianna, the Santa Fe Saints defeated Chipola College in men's basketball, winning a defensive battle over the Indians 60-56. Both teams were shorthanded, with SF dressing just nine players, and Chipola eight.
Morris Marshall got the Saints (8-4) off to the start they needed on the road, scoring 18 first half points, equaling Chipola's output to stake SF to a 36-18 lead at the half.
The start of the second half didn't go as planned for SF as they failed to score for the first six minutes and let the Indians back in the contest. Chipola would close it to as few as three in the final minutes, but clutch free throws and timely baskets helped seal the victory for the Saints.
Morris Marshall finished with a game high 24 points, Allen Baez had eight, all at the free throw line, and Kevin O'Brien finished with eight, including two three pointers.
Santa Fe will continue in the Panhandle Classic in Marianna against Gulf Coast State College on Sunday, December 6 at 2:00 PM.
