With the preseason behind them and the season scheduled to get underway Thursday, Saints Head Coach Chris Mowry still has a lot of questions that need answers. But one thing is for sure, his 2018-19 squad has plenty of size.

Beginning his 16^th year as head coach at SF, Mowry will trot out a team that boasts five players 6'7" or taller, topped off by Admir Besovic, a 7-foot sophomore transfer from the University of Montana.

"We are still going to push the ball up the floor," said Mowry. "We just have more matchup options once we get into half-court offense. We can still play small when we need to. We have some flexibility in that sense."

Other players making up the front line are freshmen; 6' 10" Wyatt Poole, 6' 7" Bosko Bojovic, 6' 7" Tyrese Williams and 6' 7" sophomore John Mason, a transfer from Georgia Southwestern University. 

The Saints won 21 games last year, finishing 21-11, but fell short of the FCSAA State Tournament when they dropped the Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship game to The College of Central Florida. Only three players return from that squad.

"We will need to continue to develop a chemistry on the floor," said Mowry. "We are getting there, but we still have more work to do in that area."

Developing chemistry will mean that the players will all get a chance to show their strengths.

"We have a lot of guys competing for spots out there," said Mowry. "It's good, healthy competition that will make us a better team."

The Saints got off to a fast start last year, winning their first seven games and strung together an eight-game winning string in December and January. They will have to beat some quality teams on the road if they are to duplicate that feat this year.

"We have four straight challenges on the road starting with Indian River after our season opener," said Mowry. "Then we have seven of eight games at home before the holiday break. I think the schedule sets up well for us to be tested and ready to compete at a high level when conference play comes around."

The Saints will tip things off when they face Red Devils Basketball Academy Thursday night at 5:00 pm at the SF gym. General admission is $5.00 and $3.00 for children under 12, seniors and veterans. All SF faculty, staff and students are admitted free with a valid SF ID.
