Saints Earn 73-70 Win over FSCJ in OT
Admir Besovic, a seven-foot transfer from Montana University, recorded a season-high 22 points and made one of the most spectacular defensive plays of the night to help the Saints get a 73-70 win over Florida State College-Jacksonville in overtime Wednesday night.
Leading by just one point with 15 seconds to play in overtime, the Saints failed to score and the Blue Wave had an opportunity to steal a win. Instead it was Besovic who would steal a pass at half court and feed Brady Fernandes for a layup to make the final margin.
"We did a great job of forcing the pass on that play," said SF Head Coach Chris Mowry. "Admir played a great game tonight on both ends."
After trailing most of the first half and down 36-32 at intermission, the Santa Fe Saints fought back to get their first double-digit lead at 59-49 with 9:39 to play when Noah Thorp hit a 3-pointer from the corner. The Blue Wave responded with three consecutive baskets from the inside and Eddie Davis hit a 3-pointer in the final minute of regulation to send the game to the extra session knotted at 68-68.
"Jacksonville played their tails off tonight," said Mowry. "I thought our guys did a great job fighting through some tough situations on the floor tonight. I'm happy for our guys being able to find a way to come out on top."
Besovic led the Saints with 22 points while Fernandes scored 20 and Isaiah Islam 10. Davis led all scorers with 27 points for the visitors.
The Saints (13-9, 2-3 MFC) will travel to Daytona on Saturday to take on the Falcons in a game scheduled to start at 4 pm.
