Saints Struggle in Loss to Daytona State College, 72-58
Heading into Wednesday night's game, the Saints hoped to turn things around on the court. However, a 72-58 loss against the Daytona State College Falcons February 13 added to the team's recent offensive struggles.
The Saints were out-rebounded 46-32, which resulted in second chance looks and ultimately more points on the board for the Falcons.
Saints head coach Chris Mowry said, "We really fought hard defensively and held them below their usual scoring average. Daytona is 22nd in the nation for a reason – but I'm proud of the effort and how the guys fought until the end." He continued, "In the first half we struggled with turnovers which led to only 22 points, but only three turnovers in the second half got us 36 points and the ability to keep up with them."
Leading the offensive effort for the Saints was Admir Besovic with 15 points. Mowry states, "Admir had a good game playing inside against one of the best junior college players in the country." Ivan Smith also chipped in 12 points and Brady Fernandes added 11.
With a week between games, the Saints (14-14, 2-8 MFC) look forward to the opportunity to work on shooting before they travel to College of Central Florida Wednesday, February 20. The game has an 8 p.m. tip-off.
