Saints Start Season with Win Over Silver Storm
The Saints men's basketball team started the season with an exciting win over ASA College (Miami) Silver Storm, 69-54 at their home opener Friday, November 1.
Both halves saw a steady effort on scoring from multiple players for the Saints with 35 first half and 34 second half points. Free throw shooting was also a boon for the program as the team made 11 of 16 at the stripe.
Saints head coach Chris Morwy said, "We were able to play 11 people quality minutes, so hopefully we have taken care of any jitters our freshmen may have had." He continued, "Happy for our players to start the season off with a win."
Mowry also praised the team's defense in addition to their offensive tenacity. "We had good stretches on defense both halves, which helped sustain us until we got our rhythm on offense. Nikola, Yaw and Josiah gave us a good boost on offense, but everyone contributed at some point."
Lead game scorer was the Saints' Nikola Jerotic with 15 points. Adding to the team's win was Josiah Tynes and Yaw Obeng-Mensah with 11 points apiece.
The Saints (1-0, 0-0 MFC) hit the road for their next game as they head to Tampa on Tuesday, November 5 against Hillsborough Community College, 7 p.m.
