Saints Drop Game to Eastern Florida
It was another close game for the Saints men's basketball team as they lost to the Eastern Florida State College Titans 56-50 Saturday, February 1.
The fiercely contested game saw the Saints down 29-28 at halftime with 18 points coming from Saints sophomore Noah Thorp's hot hand and sharp shooting.
Impressive defense was played by both teams.
Saints head coach Chris Mowry stated, "I thought we played really hard, so I am really pleased with our effort." He continued, "It was a struggle to score every possession because of great defense, and Eastern Florida really tried to take Noah out of the game in the second half as he carried us on offense in the first half."
Down four points with 13 seconds left, the Saints missed the first of a one-and-one free throw situation and the team could not recover before the buzzer sounded.
The narrow margin of a six-point loss has happened to the Saints at several games so far this season.
Mowry said, "We need to find a way to score more before we can get over the hump in these close games."
Thorp led the Saints with 26 points.
The Saints (10-14, 2-5 MFC) will challenge conference opponent Florida State College at Jacksonville at home Wednesday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m.
