Saints Lose by Two to FSC-J; 71-69
The Santa Fe Saints outscored the Blue Wave 23-6 over the final 4:44 of the game but came up short in a 71-69 loss to Florida State College at Jacksonville Wednesday night.
The Saints had trouble throughout the game containing the Blue Wave shooters and struggled to keep the front line off the boards on both ends of the floor.
"I thought they played tougher than us tonight," said SF head coach Chris Mowry. "We had chance to keep it close, but we couldn't knock down free throws or slow them down at the other end."
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Chris Clark gave FSC-J their largest lead at 65-43 but seemed to awaken the Saints offense for their late run.
Josiah Tynes started the comeback with a couple of 3-pointers and Ricardo Jackson made a pair as well but the Saints came up short again.
"I am very pleased with the way the guys played at the end," said Mowry. "We played like we didn't want to lose that game and that's they way we should play all night. We need to be able to play with that intensity earlier and longer."
Jackson led the Saints with 19 points while Yaw Obeng-Mensah scored 12 and Tynes 11.
SF (10-15, 2-6 MFC) will host the College of Central Florida at the SF gymnasium after the women's game on Saturday. The tip off is expected to take place at 4 pm.
