Saints Win on Buzzer Beater Over EFSC; 65-63
After a season full of near misses and close calls that all seemed to lineup against the Santa Fe Saints, Josiah Tynes changed it all with a 3-pointer from the corner in front of the Saints bench as time expired to produce a 65-63 win.
"We've had a lot of close losses this year," said SF head coach Chris Mowry. "It's good to see one finally go our way."
The Saints two-point win gives them a record of just 2-11 in games decided by six points or less.
The Saints led at the half 34-33, but the Titans outscored the Saints 15-2 over the first 6:30 of the second half to take their largest lead at 47-36 with 13 minutes to play. Although SF fought back to take another lead in the closing minutes it was the Titans up 63-56 with 1:37 to play.
Yaw Obeng-Mensah then hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to four. Tynes followed a defensive stop with a 3-pointer to cut it to one, and after a pair of missed free throws by EFS, Tynes hit the winner as time expired.
"We got a nice stop on defense that kept us in the game," said Mowry. "On that last possession the guys didn't panic. They moved the ball really well until we could get someone open and Josiah knocked it down. Everyone in that locker room contributed to this win tonight."
Ryan Leonard led all scorers with 22 points for the Saints while Dejuon Small scored 15 and Tynes 12.
The Saints (11-17, 3-8 MFC) will play their final regular season game of the year on Saturday when they travel to Jacksonville to take on FSC-J.
