Saints Season Ends with 65-56 Loss at EFSC
Playing their fourth game in six days, three of which were on the road, the Santa Fe Saints ran out of answers for the Titans of Eastern Florida State College, losing 65-56 in Melbourne.
The Saints held an early 13-9 lead, but the Titans went on a 21-0 run that led to a 31-15 advantage at the half.
"We missed a number of good shots, which led to some easy transition points for them," said SF head coach Chris Mowry. "At half, we talked about fighting every possession to see if we could make it close the last five minutes."
EFSC scored the first nine points of the second half but, as they have all season, the Saints fought back valiantly and trailed by only four at 47-43 with 6:48 to play. But the Titans would answer again and build the lead back to double figures.
"They hit a few shots, and we had some bad offensive possessions to let them stretch the lead back to double digits," said Mowry. "We made one more push but couldn't get back and take a lead."
A layup by Ryan Leonard would make it a 51-47 EFSC lead with 3:56 to play, but the Saints could get no closer.
"I was very proud of our effort in the second half," said Mowry. "We have shown great character all year, never giving up, no matter the score. To play three road games in four days, with EF having been off since we beat them last week, was a tough task. Again, just really proud of our effort."
Leonard led the Saints with 14 points while Dejuon Small and Yaw Obeng-Mensah each scored 13.
The Saints finish the season with an overall record of 15-16 and finished up at 7-7 in MFC play including the two MFC tournament games.
