Medor Hits Two Clutch Free-Throws, Men's Basketball Holds off St. Petersburg
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Santa Fe men's basketball won its third straight game, knocking off St. Petersburg College for the first time this season, 73-71.
The game featured a wild finish which saw the Saints prevail by the two-point margin on the Titans' home floor.
First Half – SF 37, SPC 30
The Saints played well on both ends of the floor to establish a seven-point lead at the halftime whistle.
Jay Medor had 11 points and Josh Petteno came off the bench to provide ten in the first half. Petteno had two three-pointers.
Second Half– SF 73, SPC 71
The Saints never trailed in the second half, but St. Petersburg worked their way back into it to tie the contest on a number of different occasions.
With the Saints clinging to a narrow 68-66 lead with 30 seconds left, the Titans had possession with the chance to tie or take the lead.
Yaw Obeng-Mensah, however, jumped in the passing lane in the paint and stole a pass with 13.7 seconds left before being fouled.
Obeng-Mensah hit the first but missed the second, and SF led 69-66. St. Petersburg was fouled with ten seconds left, and the Titans made two free-throws to make it a one-point game.
SF was safely able to inbound the ball, and Hasan Abdul-Hakim was fouled with just 7.4 seconds left. Abdul-Hakim came through in the clutch and made both, putting the Saints ahead 71-68.
St. Petersburg advanced the ball up the court, and just as SF appeared to try and foul, the ballhandler rose up for a falling-forward three-pointer and improbably connected to tie it at 71-71.
Santa Fe inbounded to Medor, and he was fouled as he took a dribble towards half court. Medor sunk both free-throws with just 0.7 seconds on the clock, and although St. Petersburg was able to catch a long pass up the court, the Titans ran out of time and were unable to get a shot up in the air.
Key Statistics
Six players had double-digit scoring efforts. Medor led the way with 16 points, including the two game-winning free-throws. 11 of Medor's points came in the opening half.

A Moment with Mowry
"Great win today for us over St. Pete!" said Head Coach Chris Mowry. "St. Pete played incredibly hard on both ends, so I'm really happy that we found a way to win. We were really good on offense and defense in the first half, except at the free-throw line. We led the whole second half, but St. Pete battled back to tie with three seconds to go. Jay did a great job drawing a foul against their pressure with 0.7 seconds to go and making both free-throws. We had very balanced scoring today with six players in double-figures. Josh and Hasan had big games for us off the bench for us today. We now play at Polk on Monday."
