Men's Basketball Moves to 3-0, Dismantles Kingsmen Academy 115-72
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe men's basketball hosted local Kingsmen Academy on Saturday afternoon, and used a balanced attack to win decisively, 115-72.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams went back-and-forth in the opening minutes, and SF led 22-21 at the under-10-minute media timeout.
The Saints were able to extend the advantage and led 38-31 as the clock went under five minutes in the opening half.
An 18-0 run from the hosts then widened the gap and seemed to take the wind out of the sails of Kingsmen Academy after a solid start.
SF converted on four three-pointers during the stretch of play, two of which came from the right-hand of Cole Deptula.
With a sizeable 59-36 advantage at the halftime whistle, the Saints took care of business in the final 20-minutes to put the game out of reach, opening up a lead that grew as large as 47 points.
STATISTICS
The rebounding battle went to the Saints convincingly, 54-31. Kordell Brown led the way with nine rebounds.
SF had their most prolific three-point shooting game of the season, sinking 19-of-36 from beyond the arc. The 19 triples was just one off the program-record mark of 20.
Seven different players notched double-digit points and 11 scored in what was a balanced box score for the Saints.
SF spread the wealth and assisted on 29 of their 45 made field goals.
Giovanni Baerga-Uselis made his season-debut and put in a team-high 16 points, and Deptula matched him with a season-high 16 of his own on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point land.
Nasir Mann (13), Jalen Speer (12), Brown (11), Tom Di Maria (11), and Jonathan Renois (10) were the others to put up double-digit points on the offensive end.
Coach Mowry: "It was great to get back on the court after the postponement on Thursday, and I was pleased to see contributions from a lot of different guys today. Now we get ready to head to Hillsborough on Wednesday."
